Welcome to Chelsea's Page
Welcome to my personal fundraising page! I have become a pledge-based fundraiser as a participant in the Red Balloon Run & Ride for Children's Health. Thanks for your support!
Who am I supporting?
I am supporting the ER Reimagination and Renovation at Children's Medical Center Dallas. The Emergency Room (ER) at Children’s Medical Center Dallas, the flagship hospital at Children’s Health, was built in 1967 when the population was approximately 570,000. Today, North Texas is home to more than 7 million people. With this incredible growth, Children's Health is striving to increase capabilities and help as many families as possible.
Not only does this concern our ability to meet the needs of North Texas children today, Children’s Health must also be ready to care for the children of tomorrow. Utilization of our Dallas ER will continue to grow in the coming years because of regional population increases, and because the issues bringing children to emergency rooms are becoming more complex and more prevalent – from complicated injuries to mental health concerns to vaccine-resistant flu. Therefore, it is now imperative that we invest in a new ER today to ensure children in North Texas have access to the very best in emergency medicine when they need it.
No one wants to have to bring a child to the emergency room, but when you bring them to the emergency room (ER) at Children’s Health, you know they are receiving the best care there is. Our Dallas ER is the only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center in North Texas, representing the gold standard of trauma care, and one of only five in the state. Our exceptional clinicians, social workers, medical translators, and others on our ER teams care for the whole child and meet the unique needs of each family’s circumstance. Our work has steadily been growing, along with the child population of Texas. Last year, our ER served children through more than 125,000 visits, roughly 345 per day, and is the second busiest pediatric emergency room in the country.
Precisely because so many North Texans rely on us, our wait areas are often overflowing and, over the years, rooms have been repurposed to meet increasing demand. Our talented doctors and hospital staff do an amazing job navigating patient care within our current ER infrastructure and space, but we know they could do so much more with more room, more technology, and more efficient space for patient care. We are thus embarking on a very important new initiative: renovating, modernizing, and optimizing our ER. We are very excited about this project, which includes updating equipment, adding specialized treatment rooms, and increasing the space of our current ER by more than 50%, thereby greatly increasing our capacity for intake and triage and lowering wait times—all of which means Children’s can better serve children and families in our community.
No other institution in North Texas is tackling pediatric emergency care on this scale. Children’s ER is a vital part of the fabric of our community and this is an incredible opportunity for the Dallas-area to invest in this critical local resource for our children, and to help ensure that every family has access to the very best in emergency care when they need it.
Please join me in support of Children's Health and making life better for children. I Choose Children's, because Kids Rule!
